OET

OET preparation lessons are aimed at medical professionals (Nurses, Doctors, Pharmacists and more), whose first language is not English, and are seeking registration with the relevant professional body in New Zealand.  Generally, a B Grade (350+) is required in each of  the Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing tests. However, Nurses only require a C+ Grade (300+) for Writing.  This is the equivalent of an IELTS band score of  7.0 for each skill (or 6.5 for Writing for Nurses).

An advantage of studying OET compared to an IELTS course is that the vocabulary, speaking role plays, listening and reading modules, and writing tasks are all based on situations you'll encounter in your occupation as a medical professional. Another advantage is that you can sit the four exams separately and only have to re-sit individual exams if you don't achieve the requirement in that specific skill.  (N.B Some professional bodies require the scores for all skills to be met in one sitting of the exam).

OET preparation lessons can therefore be focused on the one or two skills you still require to pass if you have already passed two or three of the skill exams.

Why study OET
with Language Elevator?

I have been teaching OET for four years to students from India, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Fiji, Korea, Germany, France, Japan, Taiwan, Iran, Turkey and Mexico. Most of these students have been nurses, but I have also taught Doctors, Pharmacists and Physiotherapists. I am also a certified OET exam supervisor and interlocuter, which includes conducting the Speaking Role Plays in the exam. So far,  I have participated in over 120 role plays with students in the OET speaking exam, which is invaluable experience when helping prepare students for the exam.  â€‹

"I'm a native Sinhala speaker from Sri Lanka. When I started my OET nursing classes with Brett, I was having a lot of trouble with my English. Brett is an amazing teacher who has patience and consideration for his students. Finally, I passed my OET exam with 4 Bs at the end of Brett's classes. I'm really grateful to have a teacher like Brett" Erandi

Thank you for the excellent tuition. I passed my OET exam on the first attempt. The one-to-one tuition was worth every cent. Brett is a very good, patient and friendly teacher. 100% recommendation" Angela, German Speaker

Structure of
OET Lessons

The number of lessons required will depend on the student's overall English level, but, as a rule of thumb, I recommend 36 hours of lessons for a student who already has a good intermediate level of English (5.5 to 6.0 IELTS equivalent).

Lessons are ideally 2 hours long for maximum learning efficiency, but 1.5 hours also works well for many students. The best way of studying OET is face to face, although I have also taught a number of students online and have a good amount of digital materials.
